  • About

Major: I'm majoring in AAPTIS, with a focus on the languages, cultures, and politics of the Middle East and North Africa.

When did you start the Flagship Program: I joined the Flagship program in 2010, participated in the Summer program in Morocco in 2011, and will be completing my Flagship course of study in Alexandria, Egypt 2012-13.

I do not have a specific field of interest within Arabic studies, I simply enjoy the general knowledge I gain from communication with others from cultures outside my own. Thus, I've generally studied the politics, religions, and other pertinent issues in the region. After studying in Cairo, I've recently become interested in the lives of Sudanese refugees in Egypt.

Career Goals: After I finish my capstone year in Alexandria, I hope to find an internship with an international NGO or continue my studies in graduate school. Ultimately, I wish to work for the State Department in the Foreign Service. From my perspective, it is not terribly important what I do, as long as it provides me with opportunities to live abroad and continually expand my understand of the world.

Hobbies: In my free time, I am active in my fraternity, Sigma Phi, and I volunteer for a number of philanthropy events. I enjoy cool weather, hiking and camping in Michigan. My favorite color is green and I hate olives.
