During the mandatory eight-week summer language training, UW faculty provides an in-depth orientation to South Asian cultures. Further orientation is scheduled upon arrival at one of two sites in India in late August. There students will begin their threefold program of continued language study (6 credits); tutorial study (6 credits) focusing on a social science or humanities topic of interest; and a year-long field research project designed by students under the supervision of a local university advisor. The fieldwork project awards 12 credits and takes students out of the classroom into the field.
