24 Michigan in-residence credits per year, 8 credits for summer term
The College Year in India-Varanasi program allows students a great
opportunity to improve their Hindi language skills while immersing
themselves in Indian culture. Students also complete an extensive
fieldwork project and work with local gurus on academic tutorials
(students can choose tutorials from performing arts (dance, music, art,
etc.); additional languages (Sanskrit, Urdu); or directed readings on a
topic of interest with local faculty). There is no language requirement
for this program but students are required to complete
two semesters of Hindi during the summer (at the South Asia Summer
Language Institute (SASLI) in Madison, Wisconsin) if they have no prior language
background. More detailed information about the program can be found on University of Wisconsin's India Program Page.
