Instruction in English, except for language courses.

ICCS Sicily students live in a newly renovated residence hall at the University of Catania, the Collegio D'Aragona, or in apartments located near the university campus. Students live within a short distance of various sites within the city, which may include the daily fruit and vegetable market, fish market, Roma Amphitheatre, Duomo, Bellini Gardens and more.

All weekday breakfasts and dinners are covered by the program fee.

16 Michigan in-residence credits per term

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Junior or senior standing recommended
  • Concentrating in classics, classical history, or archaeology; or art history major with strong classical interests and background
  • A background in ancient history is strongly advised
  • Students applying to this program will be required to meet with the UM Classics ICCS Faculty Advisor Nic Terrenato, and obtain a recommendation from him

All ICCS-Sicily students are required to take four courses per semester. You must take the Mediterranean Cultures Course, as well as Italian. Your third course must be drawn from the following: Intermediate or Advanced Latin, Intermediate or Advanced Greek, or an ICCS elective. If you are concentrating in Classics, we urge you to take at least one ancient language course. Your fourth course may be chosen from Latin, Greek (in other words, you may take two ancient language courses), or other electives.

Electives may (depending on student interest) include: Baroque Art & Architecture, History of Modern Sicily, Religions of the Ancient Mediterranean, Greek Philosophy or Medieval Literature. See Duke website for course descriptions.
