OIP NOTICE FOR ALL JAPANESE PROGRAMS:
For your OIP application to Japan, several letters of recommendation and/or a language evaluation are required. Unfortunately, most of our program sponsors will only accept letters of recommendation submitted on their own university form.
To save time and assist your faculty recommenders, we encourage you to use the application forms for the specific programs you are applying to. If you are applying to two programs through OIP, you will need to ask your faculty to write their letter of recommendation on multiple forms.
*************************************
If you are applying to Tokyo AIKOM as your 1st or 2nd choice program, you must complete the OIP application & use the OIP letters of recommendation/ language evaluation forms. They will not accept Kyoto KCJS or Hikone JCMU documents.
Students must also provide an official transcript for AIKOM specifically, even if it is your 2nd choice. They will not accept unofficial transcripts.
If selected for the Tokyo program, you will receive instructions on how to complete the AIKOM application form later.

The AIKOM (Abroad in Komaba) program at the College of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo, provides liberal arts curriculum focused on Japan and its place in the world. Students undertake Japanese language training with full-time, native instructors. In addition, students choose from a set of pre-determined courses, taught in English by University of Tokyo faculty, that address aspects of modern Japanese society, politics, economy and culture in global perspective. With approval from AIKOM, students with demonstrated language proficiency may be able to take regularly offered university courses in addition to AIKOM classes. Directed independent study is also available for those wishing to pursue academic interests beyond the program offerings.
