If you are enrolled at a UM partner institution, apply to the OIP Exchange program through your home university study abroad office. The department will provide the necessary forms and instructions and forward completed applications to the OIP.
Application Requirements
The OIP reviews submitted applications for completeness and then forwards them to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for evaluation and processing.
A completed application includes:
UM International Student Non-degree Application (including Part II).
Official transcripts, in English, of all previous and current university- and college-level work.
An official TOEFL score report if appropriate (home university-administered TOEFL or other English proficiency test results are not acceptable).
The application review process normally takes between 8-12 weeks. The OIP encourages you to submit your application as early as possible.
Note: Your application will not be evaluated until complete. Delays in receiving the above required items from your school will delay your formal admission and the mailing to you of important materials.
After formally admitting (matriculating) you the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will send directly to you (rather than to your university exchange office) a packet of materials that includes the official UM admission letter, information on orientation and housing, and documents needed to apply for a U.S. student visa.
Note: Typically an I-20 form is sent, which allows the student to obtain an F-1 visa; for various reasons, the J-1 visa is not authorized for OIP-sponsored exchange students.
