Farewell to 2006 Graduates!

On April 28, 2006 OS faculty and staff said farewell to the OS Class of 2006. After a procession through Auditorium #4 of the Modern Languages Building, 45 graduates took their seats to listen to Dr. Rick Price’s words of welcome. Nathalie Gilfoyle, General Counsel for the American Psychological Association and Organizational Studies Leadership Committee Member, was the keynote speaker and addressed the audience about “Living to Learn.” Senior Becky Eisen delivered a speech about the importance of remaining true to one’s purpose and beliefs in one’s future pursuits. Senior Paige Butler discussed the value of positive teamwork in overcoming challenges in the past and as future professionals.

A number of recognitions were highlighted during the graduation ceremonies as well. Becky Eisen was awarded the Reed Baird scholarship, which is given to one graduating student who has exhibited leadership in the OS community and excellence in the classroom. Suzanne Jones, Key Administrator in OS, was awarded the first annual Organizational Studies Spirit Award, which was named in her honor. Recipients of this award will be students, faculty, or staff who have advanced OS opportunities for students, created a more integrated OS community, or encouraged greater OS student participation. Graduate Yung Chung was accompanied by Gina Valo on violin as he sang a song composed especially for the graduation ceremony. After the awarding of diplomas and one final class picture, students and their families enjoyed a reception in the Michigan League before continuing on to more celebrations throughout the weekend.

Where will our graduates find themselves? Many of them will be busy in the field of consulting! Three graduates will work for Deloitte and Touche, others will move to Accenture, IBM and BearingPoint. Those who have not chosen the consulting route have chosen education (two will join the Teach for America corps), marketing (Google, News America Marketing), and law school.

We wish our graduates much success where ever they may go and hope that they will have a fond remembrance for their days on the 7th floor of Dennison!
