Organizational Studies Announces the Founding of the Barger Leadership Institute Friday, October 12, 2007 Organizational Studies (OS) has been educating talented students to use an interdisciplinary approach to examine the behavior, structure, and dynamics of organizations. Organizational Studies fosters a broad vision of organizations and their critical role in society that is essential for tomorrow’s leaders in a rapidly changing world. OS students are part of the next generation of Michigan leaders. • They will enter a radically changed organizational world. • Their world will be global, technologically driven, and innovation hungry. • To become the strategic thought leaders of the future they will need new leadership skills, global experiences, and an understanding of a wide range of values and cultures. • Their learning will need to go far beyond conventional classroom experiences. Through the generous support of Dave Barger, CEO of JetBlue Airways, Organizational Studies at the University of Michigan will now be home to the Barger Leadership Institute. The mission of the Institute will be to maximize the leadership potential of Michigan Organizational Studies undergraduates through field-based learning, research and scholarship. The Barger Leadership Institute will: • Create powerful leadership learning experiences for Michigan Organizational Studies students •Extend the global reach of undergraduate education through international fellowships, internships and research •Develop high potential student leaders including women and ethnic and minority groups •Support leadership research teams joining students, faculty and international organizational leaders The programs to be offered through the Barger Leadership Institute include: • Global Leadership Fellows Fellows will study at the great universities of the world. • Global Leadership Interns They will learn about cultural, economic, and institutional arrangements, and play a “hands-on” role in the organization. • Visiting Leader Program Leaders from business, government, and philanthropy will visit campus for intensive teaching. • Leadership Research Teams and Partnerships Leaders, students, and faculty will work to understand, improve organizational leadership. The Barger Leadership Institute will be officially launched with an inaugural celebration on Friday, October 12, 2007. Exciting programs and opportunities will be announced in the Fall for the upcoming year! |
