Peer Mentor Positions Monday, November 30, 2009 Each year the Organizational Studies Program employs two peer mentors (paid positions, $10/hr) whose job is to advise fellow OS students on a variety of issues and to share information about the program with prospective students. The main peer advisor tasks are listed below: • Present information to current students individually and in groups on the creation and revision of Concentration Pathways, and update the Pathway Wall in the student lounge; • Meet with students in groups or individually to give advice about OS courses, career and internship possibilities, or to refer them to others when advisable; • Conduct appointments with individual prospective students and give presentations to groups of prospective students; • Participate in OS activities, such as MOST talks, speaker series dinners, Leadership Links luncheons, • Help build OS community by suggesting and coordinating various student activities • Perform general office tasks as needed by the OS department Generally peer mentors work five hours per week and hold regular office hours. If you would like to apply for the peer mentor position, please submit a resume and cover letter that describes your qualifications for and interest in this position to Melissa Eljamal (eljamalm@umich.edu). Please note that we have two deadlines, in order to allow those who are studying abroad a fair chance to apply for a peer mentor position. Prior experience in mentoring, advising, or teaching is desirable, but other relevant work is acceptable. We will consider students who plan to be registered for classes on the AA campus for the entire 2010-2011 year. Deadlines: Study Abroaders: Cover letter and resume due November 30 5pm in Room 718 Dennison; interviews to be conducted in week of December 7. Juniors on campus W09: Cover letter and resume due January 19 5pm in Room 718 Dennison; interviews to be conducted in week of January 25. Final selections will be made by mid-February. Note: At least one member of the peer mentor team is represented at the orientation for newly admitted OS students on the evenings of March 9 and 11. |
