Current Projects:
(1) Studies of motivation and perception variables that predict escalation versus peaceful resolution of conflicts, using content-analysis of archival documents. I particularly enjoy combining the study of historical events, working with archival documents, and employing psychological techniques of measurement.
(2) Studies of the role of achievement and power motives in relation to leadership in political versus business settings. In many respects, it appears that what it takes to succeed in politics can be quite different from what leads to success in business (especially high-tech R&D-based business).
(3) An ethnographically-informed longitudinal psychological study of 1950s-era graduates of "Midwest High School." How did the experiences of growing up in the 1950s Midwest affect people's later lives?
(4) Survey studies of authoritarianism in relation to perceptions of threat and support for "just wars."
(5) Exploration of the psychological "underground" of power: What are the biological, cultural and personal sources of power drives? How is "power" related to gender? Can power be tamed?
