Below are copies of emails that have been sent to our concentrators. They are organized alphabetically by discipline, and the emails are listed in descending chronological order. You can use the links on the left side of the page to jump to a particular section. Communication Studies 3/22/04 The Comm dept has changed their offering pattern slightly, so the schedule that was printed and up on the web last week did not correctly identify which sections were reserved for Comm concentrators. Comm has actually opened more sections than usual to non-majors. For Comm 351, 361, 371 and 381 Discussion sections 003 and 005 are reserved for Comm concentrators Discussion sections 002 and 004 are open to non-majors, if you have either Comm 101 or 102 done If you don't have 101 or 102 done, you can't register or waitlist, but you can still go to the first day of class and try for a spot. In the past Comm has only opened one section to non-majors, and has required both 101 and 102, so they are apparantly being a bit more flexible this time around. back to top Organizational Studies 3/11/04 Please read this entire message carefully. Organizational Studies is excited to announce a special topics seminar for Fall 2004. The course, "Negotiation," will teach negotiation and conflict management skills to students interested in careers in the non-profit and for-profit sectors. The main goal of the course is to explore negotiation strategies and concepts to enable students to analyze and achieve success in bargaining and dispute resolution situations. A secondary goal is to identify and examine decision-making biases and social influence strategies so that students can effectively communicate messages, persuade others, and be aware of their own and others’ cognitive biases. This course will comprise negotiation exercises, mini-lectures, and guest speakers. COURSE: Orgstudy 495, Special Topics: Negotiation INSTRUCTOR: Steve Garcia MEETING TIMES: Mondays 4:00-7:00 pm PLEASE NOTE: We expect this small seminar of 20 students to be very popular, so in the interest of fairness we are giving first priority to students who will be seniors in the fall (with those who graduate in December 2004 receiving highest priority). All students (current sophomores and juniors) must request permission to enroll (email Bill Kerschbaum) BY 5:00 PM MARCH 30. We will notify current juniors by 8:00 am Apr. 1 if you have been given permission to register for the class (priority is given by credit hour). If we have room after juniors have enrolled, sophomores will be notified if they have received permission; priority will be given by credit hour for sophomores as well. Questions? Email me at bkbaum@umich.edu. back to top |
