Mark Wolak
I was born on October 23, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. I have been an artist my entire life and have studied a variety of art forms which include music, poetry, painting and karate.
Mostly self taught in the visual arts, I began drawing with charcoal when I was a child. At the age of twelve my interest had shifted to playing guitar (a serious practice which I still continue). Though I continued to draw I did not realize my true artistic calling until 1990 at which time I found myself in a state which I can best describe as having a fanatical obsession about drawing and painting.
Working diligently for the first three years in graphite only, then expanding to color pencils, pastels, watercolors, and acrylic paint on canvas. I slowly transformed from a realist to an abstract painter.
Though I still work in graphite and occasionally return to realism, my primary focus is in abstract painting with acrylics, and I suspect this will remains so for a very long time.
