Nancy King

Hello! My name is Nancy Jean King, and I have been drawing seriously for approximately six years. I have been incarcerated for very near twelve years, and during that time have directed my energy towards bettering myself through education. I have completed two certified programs, as well as obtaining two associates degrees; I should have my BA degree in May of 2000. I am blessed that my life is enriched by a loving supportive family.

My passion for art was discovered in graphic arts where I learned both illustration and computer skills. Finally, in a world where self-expression was looked down upon, I could do so with my eyes, mind, and heart! Presently I do mostly graphite portraits, but I have begun to indulge in the world of color! I also write poetry.

Do you wonder why the caged bird sings,
          Her lonely songs of sorrow?
Do you see her soaring on snowy white wings,
          Searching for tomorrow?

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has had a hand in the Prison Creative Arts Project, for sharing and for caring. (Especially Professor Alexander, and Janie Paul who started it all.)
