Elsa L. Haller received the Ph.D. in Philosophy from Michigan in 1958, at the age of 72, writing a dissertation on Karl Jaspers. She had received the B.A. from Michigan in 1908 and the M.A. in Philosophy in 1922. She published a monograph on Heidegger in 1970. Dr. Haller passed away in 1973. The Haller Scholarship was established in 1974 to provide financial support for students in Philosophy. Since 1996-97, the Endowment has been committed to Haller Prizes, awarded periodically for essays of exceptional merit written in conjunction with intermediate and advanced courses in Philosophy.
