Stephen grew up in London, Ontario, which is just a few hours' drive from Ann Arbor, but he took a circuitous route to Michigan, with many stops in between. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, B.C.; a J.D. from Harvard Law School, in Cambridge, Mass. (with a visiting year at Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law); and a M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto. In between the J.D. and the M.A., Stephen practiced law in California and Massachusetts and worked as an editor for an animal-protection nonprofit in Virginia. Stephen's main philosophical interests are in philosophy of law (especially labor and employment law) and ethics (especially metaethics), and his other interests include hockey (longtime Vancouver Canucks fan, nascent Wolverines fan), preparing and eating vegan food, and spending time with his brilliant, gorgeous wife, Sadhana; insanity-inducingly adorable daughter, Jaina; and two absurdly cute felines, Beastie and Pacchi.
