  • About

I am a Ph.D. student in both the Department of Music Theory and the Department of Philosophy. As a student of philosophy, I'm primarily interested in the philosophy of music, as well as analytic aesthetics more generally, and have been thinking and writing lately about emotion in music and issues related to aesthetic value and valuing. My current music-theoretical interests include the status of musical interpretation, the semantics of transformational music analysis, Schenker / Schenkerianism, and, broadly, the philosophical issues raised by different methods of musical analysis.

As far as non-scholastic stuff goes, I play harp in a bunch of nearby orchestras, am an enthusiastic but mediocre accordionist, own a cat named Lil' Bun Bun, embrace communalism and co-operation by residing in the North Campus Co-Op, and am a devotee of the HBO series "True Blood."
