As an undergraduate student at Loma Linda University and at Atlantic Union College, Annette earned BA degrees in communication and history while fulfilling requirements for admission to medical school.
Ultimately deciding not to study medicine, she worked as a reporter for the Voice of America in Geneva and put her communication degree to work as a member of the 1992 Clinton presidential campaign staff. And she discovered philosophy, which she studied at Johns Hopkins University, while earning a master's degree in the history of ideas, and at the University of Geneva. Following a several-year stint during which she worked for Geneva's UNESCO office and taught literature and philosophy to business and education students at Johns Hopkins University, she entered a master's degree program in philosophy at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
She began studies in the doctoral program at Boulder before transferring to the University of Michigan. At Michigan, she is interested in focusing on issues in metaphysics, epistemology, and the philosophy of language. She is especially interested in the philosophy of time.
