My research focuses on issues in ethics, ranging from concrete practical problems in daily life, medical practice, and our interactions with the environment to questions of a more abstract, theoretical nature. Presently, I am completing a dissertation on the topics of well-being and the appealing life. While the former topic is well known and widely discussed, the latter has received virtually no explicit discussion from philosophers. My dissertation seeks to establish that the concept of an appealing life (more precisely, the degree to which a life is non-instrumentally appealing to have) is philosophically interesting. Indeed, I argue that it possesses much of the significance that philosophers have associated with well-being.
Beyond ethics, I have interests in philosophy of religion, social and political philosophy, and the history of philosophy (particularly ancient and early modern philosophy). In the coming years, I hope to teach and occasionally publish in these areas.
When I leave the “job,” I enjoy watching films, reading fiction and poetry, trying to cook, indulging in Indian and Thai food, traveling to new places, and spending time with my loved ones.
