  • About

Stephen grew up in London, Ontario, which is just a few hours’ drive from Ann Arbor, but he took a circuitous route to Michigan, with many stops in between.  He earned a B.A. in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, B.C.; a J.D. from Harvard Law School, in Cambridge, Mass. (with a visiting year at UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law); and a M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto.  In between the J.D. and the M.A., Stephen practiced law in California and Massachusetts and worked as an editor for an animal-protection nonprofit in Virginia.

Stephen’s main philosophical interests are in philosophy of law (especially labor and employment law) and ethics, and his other interests include hockey (longsuffering fan of the Vancouver Canucks), cooking and eating vegan food, reading mystery novels, and spending time with his cute little family: wife Sadhana, daughter Jaina, son Ronan, and cat (and regal lord of the household) Beastie.
