Sven received his MA in philosophy from Lund University in Sweden. Before coming to Michigan he was a research student at Gothenburg University, Sweden, for a while. He has been a visiting scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill as well as at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.
Sven's research interests are moral and political philosophy. His dissertation is on Kant's ethics. Its main conclusion is that the principle of humanity is the most general maxim that could be willed as a universal law.
Other research interests more specifically include different theories of political freedom and equality, different ways of accounting for the moral significance of suffering, and truthfulness. Sven has also recently given conference presentations on love and its reasons, and the relation between Kant and Mill's arguments for their respective basic moral principles.
