I grew up on the water in Annapolis, Maryland and in the mountains and woods of rural Virginia. I majored in philosophy and minored in mathematics and art at the College of William and Mary. After graduation, I spent the next three years before I came to Ann Arbor teaching a variety of subjects at a tiny private school near my family home in Virginia. My areas of interest in philosophy are wide. In general, I am fascinated by questions of normativity, and this concern drives my interest in ethics, metaethics and the philosophy of language. I am also interested in the history and philosophy of science and early modern philosophy.
