Tad Schmaltz
Tad Schmaltz will begin teaching in Fall 2010, (he is currently Chair of the Philosophy Department at Duke). He has published articles on various topics in early modern philosophy, and is the author of Malebranche’s Theory of the Soul (Oxford, 1996), Radical Cartesianism (Cambridge, 2002), and Descartes on Causation (Oxford, 2008). He is a co-editor of the Historical Dictionary of Descartes and Cartesian Philosophy (Scarecrow, 2003), and is the editor of Receptions of Descartes (Routledge, 2005). Currently he is working with the historian of science Seymour Mauskopf to edit a collection of essays, Integrating History and Philosophy of Science: Problems and Prospects. He also is continuing to work on issues concerning the nature of the "Scientific Revolution," as well as on early modern accounts of substance, causation and freedom. He now serves as the Editor of the Journal of the History of Philosophy.
