About Chandra Sripada

Professor Sripada is interested in basic questions about how the mind works as well as how and why it breaks down.  Specific topics of interest include the architecture of emotions and other affective states, the roles of nature and nurture in shaping personality and behavior, the problem of free will and responsibility, and the nature of morality and moral judgment.  In previous papers, he has explored how developments in contemporary behavioral sciences – psychology, neuroscience, genetics, evolutionary biology, and psychiatry – provide new insights, perspectives, and in some cases glimmerings of answers to traditional philosophical questions.  At Michigan, Sripada was a Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Research.  He is currently a third year research track resident in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical Center, and is also a member of the Psychiatric Affective Neuroimaging Lab.
