Tanner is fortunate to maintain a strong journal collection of more than seventy-five unique titles in print. These include numerous interdisci-plinary journals devoted to the intersection of philosophy with the arts, law, medicine, religion, and such special sciences as biology, linguistics, psychology, and physics. Volumes carry dates from as early as 1892, in the case of Mind.
Generous donor contributions make the journal holdings possible. To express the Department's appreciation, volumes of bound journals include a bookplate inscribed with the donor's name and year of contribution. If you would like to support the Library, checks should be made payable to "University of Michigan" and mailed to the Department. Please indicate "Tanner Philosophy Library Fund" on the memo line. Gifts may also be made by credit card, online.
Current journals are kept in the reading area of the main room. Current bound journals from 2000 to the present are shelved in the periodicals room. Earlier volumes of bound journals are kept in the Library Annex. There are a few notable exceptions: Journal of Philosophy (Volume 27, 1930-), Mind (Volume 1, 1892-), and Philosophical Review (Volume 29, 1920-) are housed in Tanner's main periodicals room.
Recently, Tanner began subscribing to Oxford Studies in Ancient Philosophy and the Journal of Islamic Philosophy, and ordered back volumes of these journals.
Also, all persons affiliated with the University of Michigan have access to the University Library's e-journal collection.
