Preceding his retirement, Professor Janecke investigated a wide range nuclear structure phenomena. Recent emphasis was on collective excitations of the nuclear many-body system using charge-exchange reactions with implications for nucleo-synthesis calculations. Accelerator experiments were performed at numerous accelerator facilities in the United States, in the Netherlands, and in Japan. After retirement, Professor Janecke became again involved in theoretical projects related to nuclear masses and binding energies.
