Welcome to the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan. U-M has one of the country's premier programs for the training of graduate students in physics, coupled with a very active and wide-ranging research endeavor.

 

Ph.D. Requirements (in a nutshell)
To be awarded the Ph.D. degree in physics, you must be admitted to candidacy for the Ph.D. program, successfully complete 68 fee hours of courses, pass one 600-level course (of at least 2 credit hours) with a grade equivalent of B (5.0) or better, and submit a dissertation on original research in physics and successfully defend it before your Dissertation Committee.
