Demonstrations

Demonstration Lab

Demonstration Lab is located in the Dennison Building across from Randall Laboratory. It is where the Demonstration Staff build faculty-requested experiments.

Physics Hands-On Displays

The Physics Hands-On Displays are located on the second floor of new Randall Laboratory next to the 2246 PRL conference room.

In 1969, Frank Oppenheimer founded the Exploratorium in San Francisco, providing a wonderful model for introducing science in a mode that was both fun and beautiful. This has been widely copied in many communities across the world, including Ann Arbor. Physics students see simpler demonstrations in introductory lectures but often don’t have the opportunity to explore more sophisticated examples unless they take our advanced labs. To mitigate this void, seven exhibits are on display on the second floor of the new Randall Lab building. These displays were designed by Carl Akerlof and built in the Physics Department Instrument Shop.
