PitE has several funding opportunities available through the year. Many of these take the form of scholarships or grants. Many of these scholarships are made possible by the generous donations of our donors. PitE also serves as the representing unit for the Udall Scholarship, which is awarded to students nationwide by the Morris K. Udall and Stewart Udall Foundation

Udall Foundation ScholarshipFor students committed to environmental and Native American issues
The Morris K. Udall and Stewart Udall Foundation is dedicated to educating a new generation of Americans to preserve and protect their national heritage through scholarship, fellowship, and internship programs focused on environmental and Native American issues. The Udall Foundation is also committed to promoting the principles and practices of environmental conflict resolution.
In 2012, the Foundation expects to award 80 scholarships of up to $5000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350 to sophomore and junior level college students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care. All scholarship winners also attend a four-day orientation to meet with other Udall Scholars, elected officials, environmental and tribal leaders. All 2012 Scholars are required to attend this event. It will be held August 8-12, 2012, in Tucson, Arizona. The Foundation will arrange travel from the Scholar's home or school; lodging and meals are provided.
To be considered by the Udall Foundation Scholarship Comittee, students must be nominated by their home institution. The Program in the Environment (PitE) serves as the university representative unit for the Udall Foundation Scholarship and nominates students to the Udall Foundation.
Students who are interested in applying for the Udall scholarship must submit their application to PitE, and should read about the Udall Scholarship application process at the University of Michigan, and the Udall Scholarship Award Conditions and Benefits.
The campus deadline for the Udall Scholarship is January 13, 2012.
