Program in the Environment (PitE) is dedicated to developing environmentally informed leaders by providing them with skills and knowledge to stimulate positive change in the natural and built environment.
A collaborative effort between the College of Literature, Science, and Arts (LSA) and the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE), PitE provides its students with an interdisciplinary curriculum that spans the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. We give students a broad understanding of the complexity of environmental problems as well as specific science-based skills with which to solve them. Often outside of the walls of a typical classroom, our program encourages students to gain practical experience in the field of their choice, allowing them to hone in on usable problem solving skills and to practice action on topics that they are passionate about.
PitE is a welcoming home to students of all interests and disciplines. Students pursuing a concentration in PitE may achieve a bachelor of sciences or a bachelor of arts, depending on their interests. We also offer several minors—a great way for students of all academic backgrounds to get involved with creating a better tomorrow.
