Gift Opportunities

To become environmental change agents, our students complete a practical, or field, experience. This experiential learning opportunity requires student to apply theory, skills and concepts from previous courses into a professional or field setting. This requirement can take the form of an environmental internship, residential field station course, or a study abroad program.

Our PrioritiesPractical Experience Funding Is A Top Priority

Students often forgo summer employment and find other opportunities to cover the expenses of their summer practical experience, which can include transportation to the field site, room/board, program fees, and/or supplies.

PitE has made it a priority to help students cover these expenses by awarding merit-based and need-based scholarships, which are made possible because of the generosity of our alumni and friends. As our program continues to grow, as does the student request for funding.

As a young, yet fast growing unit, PitE benefits greatly from gifts we receive from our friends and alumni. All gifts are greatly appreciated, and put to use right away. See the sections below to learn how you can help us meet our goal to fund PitE students' practical experiences.

DIRECTOR RECOGNITION FUNDS
Two of our practical experience scholarship funds were established to recognize former PitE directors who are staunch supporters of experiential learning. We invite you to consider making a gift either of these funds.
Barry G. Rabe Endowed Fund (Environmental Policy)
Robert M. Owen Scholarship Fund (Earth and Environmental Sciences)

STRATEGIC FUND
PitE uses strategic funds to host academic and even career focused workshops for current PitE students. These events include career exploration panel discussions, graduate school workshops, and the bi-annual "Pizza with Professors" academic fair event, where students meet with course instructors over pizza.

ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
There are several scholarship funds that have been established, due largely in part to the generosity of our donors. A listing of these can be found on our scholarships page.
