  James is interested in the domestic strategic uses and consequences of humanitarian aid in emergency situations.  His research evaluates the domestic political determinants of relief aid distribution following natural disasters and the mechanisms through which foreign aid has an impact on domestic conflict.  

  Prior to attending graduate school, James worked with an international relief and development organization in Cambodia, El Salvador and Pakistan.
