Qingjie is interested in how the Chinese government exercises political control over its local agents through a combination of strategies, including the delegation of everyday decision-making power, personnel management, administrative oversight and anti-corruption efforts. Qingjie also wants to explore how the institutions built by the Chinese government to maintain the compliance of its local agents affect the behavior pattern of Chinese citizens, especially the latter's attempt to use collective actions to further their interests. He would also like to study how the United States designed a civil service system that exemplifies professionalism and accountability.
