APPLICATION PROCESS

Application Process

The Department of Psychology admits students only once each year for the Fall term. To apply, students complete the official online Rackham Graduate Application form. When completing this form applicants will have the opportunity to upload a Personal Statement, Statement of Purpose, and transcripts. Applicants will also be prompted to register their recommenders, so that they will be able to submit their letters of recommendation online. All applicants who are applying to the Psychology Graduate Program should review the Psychology Department Graduate Application Checklist. Applicants should not send any hardcopy materials to the Psychology Department.

For matriculation in Fall, 2012, the deadline for submission of your application is December 1, 2011. All applicants are notified of admission decisions by April 1, 2012.

Although a comprehensive funding package is available for the students admitted to the Clinical Area, we strongly encourage all applicants to apply for predoctoral scholarships and fellowships.

Applicants with scholarly interests in education, women’s studies, or social work should consider applying to one of our joint programs in education (CPEP), women’s studies, or social work -- in addition to or instead of -- the clinical psychology program. These programs offer special opportunities for interdisciplinary scholarship.

Prospective Applicants:
Acceptance to our clinical psychology program is highly competitive. We view the entire application package of all applicants and select those best fit our program. Although we do not have rigid admission criteria, competitive applicants usually have very high undergraduate GPAs and GRE scores, significant research experience (e.g., paper or poster presentations at regional and national conferences, publications, senior/honors thesis, etc.), and a close match between the student’s research interest and the expertise of our faculty.

Any questions regarding admissions should be directed to the Clinical Area Admissions Chair, Dr. Joseph Gone (jgone@umich.edu).  Recruitment weekend will take place February 17-18, 2012.
