Latino Family Services is a community-based, non-profit organization that serves the community of Southwest Detroit. The primary goal of LFS is to develop a service system which assists and supports in their efforts to improve their social, health, and educational functioning; enhance their community environment; and increase economic self-sufficiency. This is accomplished by providing a broad range of services, from HIV testing and counseling, to bilingual childcare and parenting classes. Nearly all services are provided in both Spanish and English.

Detroit Initiative students are involved in the LFS Youth Department, assisting the department director in implementing and running the after-school program. The LFS After-School Program works with children ranging in ages 6 to 16 and currently has approximately sixty children in attendance. Children are provided with a computer room, classrooms for homework help, a library, recreation room, and art project opportunities. Detroit Initiative students provide tutoring and mentoring services to the youth, and assist with program development and implementation.
