Studies indicate exercise may boost brain power

Associate Professor Rachael Seidler research in the Ann Arbor News, February 27, 2007

From the article:

If you're depressed, perhaps it's time to go for a run. Say you have an important exam coming up - add an extra trip to the gym to your study routine....

The exercise-brain connection results from increased blood and oxygen flowing to the brain, vamping up your cognitive performance, said Rachael Seidler, an associate professor of psychology and kinesiology at the University of Michigan.

"We've known a lot of benefits of exercise, and particularly to balance and bone density as we get older, so we encourage exercise,'' Seidler said. "Now new evidence that it engages cognitive abilities is another benefit to add to the list.''
