Research Interests

Psychologists have long viewed the experience of disability from a medical/clinical perspective focusing on perceived losses or limitations, and seeking to “help” people to adjust to their conditions. My research runs counter to that perspective, and utilizes what is known as the Social Model of Disability to argue that people with disabilities should be seen as a minority group united not by their particular impairments, but by their shared experiences in navigating a physical, social, and political environment which, in general, is not suited to their needs.
