General Research Description My research focuses on brain
mechanisms of motivation and sensory pleasure. Current Projects
1) The
involvement of ventral pallidal GABA and opioid neurotransmission
in processing motivational signals for feeding and 'liking'.
2) The
flow of 'liking' signals within limbic circuits.
3) The
neural coding of taste hedonics.
Techniques
I use intracranial
microinjection of pharmacological receptor agents to examine neurochemical
systems, electrophysiological cell recording to study the neural coding
of sensory hedonics in behaving animals (with Aldridge
Lab), behavioral and taste reactivity microanalysis, and FOS immunocytochemistry
to study neural activation following intracranial drug administration.
