The Infant Cognition Project

Infant cognition is the way in which infants understand the world around them. Although, it was once believed that babies were passive and only responded to the external environment in reflexive, unthinking ways, recent research suggests that they begin to actively interpret their world as soon as they are born.
The implications of understanding infant cognition are multi-faceted. Not only do parents benefit from a more in- depth knowledge of their infants' behavior but researchers, teachers and toy manufacturers can also benefit from this understanding. Understanding the ways in which babies interpret their environment aides in the development of new ways to study infants and investigate normal as well as abnormal development.
Please feel free to look around our website. If you are interested in participating in our studies, please fill out the interest card, and we will contact you when your child/children are the right age for a study. Thank you!
Support for the Infant Cognition Project has been provided by an NSF Grant to Henry Wellman
