Welcome to our lab!

Welcome to the Brain and Development Lab website! Our lab is interested in finding out how children's brains develop as they reach milestones in thinking and understanding. These milestones include things like:

  • understanding the difference between a belief or desire and reality
  • understanding that one person's beliefs might differ from another's
  • being able to act differently in a situation than he or she feels
  • learning to understand written and spoken language

To investigate how children's brains change during development, we use a method of brain imaging called event-related potentials, or ERP, which you can read more about in "About Our Methods". Detailed descriptions of the studies we are currently conducting in the Brain and Development Lab can be found in our "Current Studies" section, and driving directions and a map of our location can be found under "Directions to Lab".

Please feel free to visit the "Infant Cognition Project" website if you are interested in other research with kids that is being conducted at the University of Michigan.
