 | Core Assay Facility Assays and Pricing

The CAF mainly processes steroid hormones obtained from saliva (humans) and feces (non-human primates). However, we are equipped to measure any hormone for which there is a commercially-available assay kit. Additionally, we can use a group-specific assay rather than an assay for a specific hormone (e.g. estrogens vs. estradiol). Talk to us if you are not sure about a particular hormone. The standard pricing for any assay includes two costs: (1) the cost of the supplies and reagents to run the assay, and (2) a base cost for each assay. Therefore, the actual cost of the assay will vary from client to client depending on which assay you would like us to do. For example, one of our most common assays is salivary cortisol (in adult humans). For full service, the cost per sample for cortisol would be ($4.25 + 1.80) = $6.05 per sample.
Base Costs
- Radioimmunoassay – Full service*: $4.25 per sample
- Enzyme immunoassay – Full service: $3.50 per sample
- Radioimmunoassay – Self service**: $2.50 per sample
- Enzyme immunoassay – Self service: $1.25 per sample
* Full service – CAF lab does all the processing, assay, and analysis of samples.
** Self service – Client does all the processing, assay, and analysis of samples in the CAF lab (see Using CAF: The Process)
Assay Costs
Assay costs for some of our most common assays are listed below.
RIA Salivary Hormone Assays
- Progesterone: $2.70 per sample
- Estradiol: $1.90 per sample
- Testosterone: $2.31 per sample
- Cortisol: $1.80 per sample
RIA Fecal Hormone Assays
- Glucocorticoids: $2.93 per sample
- Estrogens: $2.40 per sample
- Testosterone: $2.40 per sample
- Progestins: $2.90 per sample
RIA Urinary Hormone Assays
- Glucocorticoids: $2.67 per sample
- Estrogens: $2.50 per sample
- Testosterone: $2.50 per sample
- Progestins: $2.60 per sample
Total costs per sample always include BOTH a base cost AND an assay cost.
