Using CAF (The Process)
If you are not sure whether the CAF lab is right for you
If you are not sure about how you might add a hormone component to your research or if you would just like more information, please contact the CAF director.

If you would like help incorporating a hormone component into your next grant
We can provide you with descriptions of space and equipment. We also can review the hormone methods section of your grant. Please contact the CAF director.

If you would like to have your samples assayed
If you are certain you would like to proceed with using the CAF lab services, then please register and make a request using the CAF Service Request System. Someone will contact you about:
  1. getting your samples to the CAF lab,
  2. when the data will be available,
  3. pricing, and
  4. any special instructions on processing.
If you would like to participate in our bi-annual training sessions
These training sessions assume that you will be using the CAF in the future for assay work. Prior to taking this training session you must:
  1. Take the Radiation Safety Orientation course offered by OSEH (to sign up, go to http://www.oseh.umich.edu/).
  2. Take the Comprehensive Laboratory Safety Training course offered by OSEH (to sign up, go to http://www.oseh.umich.edu/).
  3. Contact the CAF director and let her know which session interests you (i.e. Winter 2008, Fall 2008, etc.).
  4. Submit a proposal of your planned research to the CAF director.
If you (or someone in your lab) already have assay experience and would like to conduct research in the CAF lab
You must:
  1. Take the Radiation Safety Orientation course offered by OSEH or update your previous course. You must have taken this course within the last year to be valid (to sign up, go to http://www.oseh.umich.edu/).
  2. Take the Comprehensive Laboratory Safety Training course offered by OSEH or update your previous course. You must have taken this course within the last year to be valid (to sign up, go to http://www.oseh.umich.edu/).
  3. Contact the CAF director and let her know when you would like to use the CAF facilities.
  4. Submit a proposal of your planned research to the CAF director.
Note about IRB and UCUCA approval
Please note that all researchers must have already secured their own IRB approval if working with humans (http://www.irb.research.umich.edu/IRB_Behavioral/New/IRB_Behavioral.html) or UCUCA approval if working with animals (http://www.ucuca.umich.edu/). The CAF lab is not able to assist in these approvals.
