CONFERENCE TRAVEL AWARD

The Conference Travel Award was created to assist current Psychology Department concentrators with the expenses associated with presenting their research at a major regional (e.g., Midwestern Psychological Association), national (e.g., APA, APS, SRCD), scientific, or professional conference. Students who demonstrate dedication to their academics as well as passion for their research are encouraged to apply for this award. Awards will be $250-500. This is a one-time award offered during the 2009-2010 academic year and not annually given by the Psychology Department.

The Conference Travel Award should be used to offset costs of transportation, lodging and registration fees to attend and present at a conference. Students must be able to verify that their presentation submission has been accepted by a professional conference. The conference may take place anytime from August 2009 - May 2010 but the acceptance letter must be dated no later than April 30, 2010. The presentation can consist of either a paper presented during a panel discussion, a symposium or a poster presentation. The student must be the primary presenter of the research, whether it is as a single or joint author.

Congratulations to Alex Dopp, Daniel Kessler,
Katherine MacDuffie, and Phillip Moll
Recipients of the 2009 Conference Travel Award!

Application materials should include the following and be sent to psych.awards@umich.edu as Microsoft Word attachments:

  • An application cover sheet.
  • A brief summary, no more than two pages, that addresses how this award will help facilitate your professional and/or educational goals, describes the research that you will be presenting at the conference, a budget summarizing the cost of presenting, and lists the conferences to which you will be applying (please note if your work has already been accepted). Applications for presentations that are not yet accepted to the conference will still be considered, but officially accepted submissions will be given priority.
  • A letter of support from your faculty mentor (all letters should be sent to psych.awards@umich.edu). This letter should comment on your academic achievements, commitment to research and address your role in the conference presentation.
  • Once your application has been submitted, a copy of your unofficial transcript from the University of Michigan will be added to your application by the Student Academic Affairs Office.

All applications will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Committee for Undergraduate Studies.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, please submit once you have applied or been accepted to present at a Psychological conference. Recipients will be notified after the Awards Subcommittee has met for that month (first review will occur with the Nov. 11 awards). Funding will not be disbursed until a conference acceptance letter has been submitted.
