Psychology Peer Advisors
WHO are the Peer Advisors?

The Psychology Peer Advisors are Junior and Senior undergraduate Psychology concentrators who are well-informed about the Psychology concentrations and have received training in peer helping skills.

 

WHAT do Peer Advisors do?

Peer Advisors help students analyze and assess their progress in fulfilling their Psychology course requirements, aid students in planning their class schedules, help students declare Psychology as a major, discuss graduate school and career options, and go over research opportunities and options for Independent Study in the department. Additionally, the Peers also plan and organize Focus Groups and Forums throughout the year.

 

WHERE are the Peer Advisors located?

The Peer Advising office is located in 1343 East Hall.

 

WHEN will Peer Advisors advise?

Advising hours begin on September 21, 2009 and end December 14th, 2009. Peer Advisors take walk-in appointments Monday through Friday from 11:00am-4pm. Please note that peer advisors are only available during Fall and Winter terms.

Marie Bahoora
Psychology and Communication Studies Concentrator (Senior)
 
Marie is a senior from West Bloomfield, Michigan. After graduating in May, she plans to pursue a law degree. She loves volunteering, particularly on the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus. She volunteers at the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center and for the University of Michigan Dance Marathon. She is also a member of the Michigan Pre-Law Society as well as the Chaldean American Student Association. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, going to concerts, and watching lots of movies.
 
 
Nina Banozic
Psychology Concentrator (Junior)
 
Nina is originally from Bosnia; she has spent the last ten years in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a junior in the College of LSA she is pursuing Psychology and English Language & Literature. During her time at the University of Michigan she has been involved in Relay for Life and the V-Day Campaign. Her future plans are undecided, but likely to lead to graduate studies in Psychology. In her free time she loves drawing, reading, travelling, practicing yoga, spending time at the beach (whenever possible!) and being with her family and friends.
 
 
Daniel Bitman
Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science Concentrator (Senior)
 
Daniel is a senior from Parkland, Florida. He has spent his last three years being a member in the Michigan Marching Band Drumline, as well as being an active participant in his fraternity on campus. Daniel also spent his summers interning at his local hospital under the administration there. He plans on using this experience, coupled with the knowledge from his BBCS Concentration, for graduate school where he wishes to obtain a degree in Healthcare Management. Along with his passion for music, Daniel loves traveling, and speaks Spanish fluently.
 
 
Leah Boepple
Psychology Concentrator (Junior)
 
Leah is from Edwardsburg, Michigan, a village outside of South Bend, Indiana (located in a region called “Michiana”). After graduation, she plans to obtain a doctorate in clinical psychology. At the present moment, Leah is composing an honors thesis in a clinically based research lab, works at St. Vincent de Paul, and volunteers at the Delonis Center. In her spare time, Leah enjoys experimenting with the culinary arts, jigsaw puzzles, painting furniture, swimming and spending quality time with her dog.
 
 
Ayibatari Burutolu
Psychology Concentrator and Sociocultural Anthropology Minor(Senior)
 
Ayibatari is from Taylor, Michigan. She loves exercising, watching foreign films, volunteering, eating cereal and traveling. Ayibatari works in the Alcohol and Other drugs section of UHS, primarily for the Stay in the Blue and Safe and legal programs that serve to educate U of M Students about safe drinking practices and policies regarding alcohol and drug use. After graduation she hopes to pursue a Masters in Social Work in the areas of Mental Health and Substance abuse. She is also very interested in international issues and awareness.
 
 
Jenny Brownson
Psychology and Economics Concentrator (Senior)
 
Jenny is from Barrington, Illinois. After graduation in May, she plans to attend law school. In Jenny’s free time, she enjoys reading, spending time with friends, and skiing.
 
 
Sarah Cremer
Psychology Concentrator (Junior)
 
Sarah is from Ionia, MI, a smaller city located right in between Grand Rapids and Lansing. She plans on receiving a BA in Psychology as well as a minor in Spanish. Outside of school, Sarah is a data collector for the U of M School of Nursing research study Creando Posibilidades and also teaches dance classes at a local studio. In her free time she leads a U of M Residential College Health and Wellness Forum and loves reading up on current nutrition-related information, which she uses to experiment with new cooking and baking recipes.
 
 
Sara Johnson
Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Psychology (Senior)

Sara is from Bay City, Michigan. She is currently a research assistant in the Department of Social Psychology and was previously a research assistant in the Department of Neurology at the medical school. Sara is a member of the Counseling and Psychological Services Student Advisory Board, Michigan Association of Psychological Scholars, First-Generation College Students at Michigan, and is the Publicity Chair for Relay for Life. She has volunteered in Boston, MA and Cranks Creek, KY through the Alternative Spring Break program. After graduation, she hopes to work for a few years to pay off student loans before applying to optometry school.
 
 
Philip Martinez
Psychology Concentrator (Senior)
 
Phil is a fifth year senior in the Psychology concentration from Novi, 
Michigan. He is especially interested in psychopathology and abnormal psychology. Although not immediately after graduation in December, he would love to pursue a career in criminal psychology. Phil has spent the last couple of summers attending music festivals and traveling overseas while working at a local country club. In his free time he enjoys spending time with friends, discovering music, playing lots of golf, and keeping track of all things Detroit Tiger baseball.
 
 
Andrew Mast
Psychology Concentrator (Senior)
 
Andrew is from the small town of Sturgis, Michigan. He is a senior studying psychology and music. He is unsure of his post-graduation plans, but hopes to stick around Ann Arbor because he loves it here. He loves writing and performing music, spending time with his friends, and cheering on his beloved Tigers.
 
 
Kathryn Osher
Psychology Concentrator (Senior)
 
Kathryn is a senior from Santa Monica, CA.  As an honors student, Kathryn devotes a majority of her time completing her Senior Honors Thesis, which focuses primarily on parental differential treatment and its effects on sibling jealousy, and working as a Research Assistant in the Family Transitions Lab. After studying this past semester in Rome, Kathryn has developed a profound sense of appreciation for other cultures, and wishes to travel more in the future. Upon graduation, Kathryn plans on spending another year doing research before entering a joint program in Clinical Psychology (for her PhD) and Social Work (for her Masters). She enjoys running, spending time with friends, and eating E. Coli free cookie dough.
 
 
Lacie Pine
Psychology Concentrator (Senior)
 
Lacie was born in Chicago, but lived most of her life in Portage, MI. Lacie is a transfer student to the University of Michigan. After graduation she plans on taking a year or two off to work, but then plans to go to grad school for either counseling or social work. In her free time she works, spends time with family and friends, and sees lots of movies.
 
 
Avis Randle
Psychology Concentrator, Spanish Minor (Senior)
 
Avis is from Detroit, MI. After graduation, she will gain more research experience for graduate school while applying to the U of M’s School of Social Work dual degree program to earn her Master’s Degree of Social Work and her Jurist Doctorate. In graduate school, Avis will earn a PhD in Clinical Psychology working with children and adults in urban communities. This past summer, she interned at a Harvard Medical School Children’s Center and enjoyed her experience. She loves the Spanish language and plans to stay in South America for two years to become fluent and to explore the Spanish Culture. Her hobbies include fellowshipping with Jesus Christ, dancing, singing, reading, exercising, laser tag, making jewelry, community service, hanging out with family and close friends, as well as spoiling her Labrador (Precious).
 
 
Craig Salm
Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science Concentrator (Senior)
 
Craig is from Tenafly, NJ. He is a senior majoring in Brain, Behavior and Cognitive Science and minoring in Art History. Craig has a strong passion for movies, and plans to attend Dental School next fall.
 
 
Gordon Shott
 
Gordon is from Cincinnati, Ohio. While many fields of psychology appeal to him, he is particularly interested in the neurological processes involved in abnormal behavior. He has a passion for research and is very grateful for the immense research opportunities offered by the psychology department at U of M. Upon graduation Gordon plans to attend medical school to pursue a career in pediatrics. In his spare time Gordon enjoys spending time with friends, watching and playing sports, backpacking classes, and enjoying the Ann Arbor sun.
 
 
Stefani Silberstein
Psychology Concentrator (Senior)
 
Stefani is from Farmington Hills, Michigan. She is primarily interested in child development and psychology and after graduation plans to pursue a law degree in Child Advocacy and Family Law. Stefani is very involved in K-grams, which is a mentoring and learning program for elementary school students and college students.  This semester Stefani has an internship working for the Washtenaw County Public
Defenders Office in the juvenile department, specifically abuse/neglect and d
elinquency. Stefani is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Stefani loves 
to spend time with her friends and family, travel, and have fun.
 
 
Danielle Taubman
Psychology Concentrator (Senior)
 
Danielle is from Farmington Hills, Michigan.  She is particularly interested in learning about the therapeutic applications of mindfulness and specifically mindfulness-based stress reduction.  She has been involved with Dance Marathon and Psi Chi, volunteered in Nicaragua with the Alternative Spring Break program, and last spring break she attended a leadership seminar on intercultural awareness that sparked her interest in multicultural issues.  After graduation she hopes to study and work in Thailand and pursue a masters degree in clinical social work or public health.  She enjoys baking, reading, running, traveling, and meeting new people.
