Become a Peer Advisor

Psychology Peer Advisors are Junior and Senior undergraduate Psychology Department concentrators who are well-informed about the Psychology concentrations and have received training in peer helping skills.

Peer Advisors help students analyze and assess their progress in fulfilling Psychology course requirements, aid students in planning class schedules, help students declare Psychology as a major, discuss graduate school and career options, and go over research opportunities and options for Independent Study in the department. Additionally, the Peers also plan and organize Focus Groups throughout the year.

You must apply to become a Peer Advisor. Applications are available below. If you are chosen for an interview you will receive an email message to set up a time for an interview.

After all interviews have been conducted, students who have been selected will receive emails announcing their acceptance. Once accepted, you will also enroll in Psychology 308. Psychology 308 is a graded course that will fulfill the experiential lab requirement for Psychology majors and count towards the credits needed for a Psychology concentration. Psychology 308 does not count in the Biopsychology, Cognition & Neuroscience concentration.

Applications need to be completed the term before you plan to be a Peer Advisor. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered for the next term of Peer Advising. You may, however, submit your application for consideration for the following term. Deadlines can be found in the UM Time Schedule of Classes.
