Lecturer and Head, French Program
Office Location(s): 1622 East Quad
Dominique Butler-Borruat has been teaching for the last 20 years in the RC French Program, a program which she now has been directing for about 10 years. Within the realm of secondary language acquisition, she is particularly interested in the teaching of reading skills and in fostering intercultural competence. More recently, she has been incorporating technology to enhance her teaching and is currently converting all her grammar lectures into flipped classrooms. With her background in philosophy, her readings courses always include, to various degrees, a philosophical approach and content, such as Existentialism: The Human Condition and the Absurd or Au Coeur de l’amitié: A Multidisciplinary Study of the Concept of Friendship. She has also developed experiential learning opportunities for advanced students of French: her service-learning course collaborates with the Detroit Freedom House which provides shelter to victims of persecution seeking asylum in the United States.
