Thank you for allowing us to offer Romance languages and literatures at the University of Michigan since 1847. Your generous donations are the reason that we have been able to welcome over 3,000 students into our language classes each fall, offer our 800 concentrators and minors courses in language and literature, and accept some of the top graduate student candidates to our program each year.
Currently, we offer one of the highest numbers of study abroad scholarships in LSA and are one of the few units that offer internship stipends to undergraduates and study abroad fellowships for research to graduate students. Still, with the average term abroad costing over $20,000 and the average graduate student fellowship costing over $50,000, we need help.

En Nuestra Lingua
The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL) also supports the community project En Nuestra Lengua (ENL), launched in 2010.
ENL is an ongoing collaboration between university faculty/researchers, area public schools, and Spanish-speaking families in the community. Its aim is to develop academic skills in Spanish for bilingual students and devise solutions to close the Latino education achievement gap. ENL operates as a Saturday school for Spanish-speakers, supplementing the existing pre-kindergarten thru grade 3 school curriculum with coursework in Spanish.
ENL received national recognition in 2012 from the Center for Applied Linguistics’ Alliance for the Advancement of Heritage Languages.
