Professional Work and Publications
I supervise French 235 and serve as Advisor to the students' French organization
("Comité Francophone"). I also usually teach the following courses:
Advanced Practice in French through Sociopolitical Issues (French 235), Cultural
Studies and Literature (French 270) and Composition and Stylistics (French 335).
My main areas of interest are the politics, society, ideological culture, literature and
arts of the 1789-1900 period; stylistics; sociopolitical questions in today's France, the
European Union, as well as transatlantic relations.
I have published articles on Charles Baudelaire and Paul Valéry, and have lectured
on 19th-century revolutions, Parisian modernity and impressionist art. My present research
addresses in particular the political culture of the Second Empire and Third Republic.
