he Department of Romance Languages and Literatures Graduate Program is a community of scholars engaged in innovative interdisciplinary work that crosses the traditional literary and national boundaries formerly characterizing Romance Languages, while at the same time preserving a focus on the methods of literary study.
Many of our faculty members hold joint appointments with such departments as Womens Studies, Linguistics, Comparative Literature, Film & Video Studies, American Culture, the Center for Afroamerican and African Studies, and History; and are active in the Atlantic Studies Initiative, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and the Center for European Studies.
Likewise, our graduate students are encouraged to shape their own unique intellectual paths, taking advantage of the breadth of complementary programs, coursework and extracurricular activities the U-M community has to offer.
The opportunity to work closely with individual faculty through the mentorship component of our program rounds out a flexible and uniquely challenging graduate school experience.
