The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures offers Ph.D. programs in French, Italian, and Spanish. We encourage applications from students who wish to pursue the study of more than one Romance language and literature. We also coordinate with the Department of Linguistics to offer a joint Ph.D. program in Romance Linguistics.

A checklist of required application materials for the Ph.D. programs in French, Italian, and Spanish follows the admissions information below.

  • All RLL Ph.D. programs begin in the Fall term only. Application materials must be received by January 1.

  • Applications for the joint program in Romance Linguistics are due by December 15, and should be sent to the Department of Linguistics, not the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.

Please visit the Department of Linguistics for more information about application materials to the joint program in Romance Linguistics.
