advising program requirements

The Department of Linguistics and the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures offer a joint Ph.D. program. Course requirements vary slightly from the usual Ph.D. requirements for each unit in order to permit completion of the Ph.D. in the normal time frame (approx. five years).

The joint Ph.D. program begins in the fall term only. Application materials must be received by the Department of Linguistics by December 15 (this differs from the January 1st deadline for other programs in Romance Languages and Literatures). Copies of the application and all supporting materials will be forwarded by the Department of Linguistics to the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. For a list of admissions requirements, click here.

If accepted, you will be admitted directly into the joint Ph.D. program. While a Master's degree can be earned during the course of study towards a Ph.D., admission is granted only for the pursuit of a Ph.D. degree.
