Congratulations to Christian Kroll

Christian Kroll (Spanish) successfully defended his PhD dissertation, "Writing Beyond Reason:  Literature, Insurgency, Counterinsurgency and Sovereignty in Contemporary Latin America" in September 2012 and has joined the faculty of Sewanee University as an assistant professor.

Dissertation description: Drawing on close readings of literary texts from Peru, Mexico and Central America coupled with the exploration of the historical, conceptual and cultural relations between state formation and  state violence, Christian analyzes the languages of insurgency and counterinsurgency in the Latin America of the last fifty years.

Christian's dissertation chair was Gareth Williams, RLL professor of Spanish.
